Might have forgot to mention that after the epic move down the block I went on a vacation. Can you guess where I am?

burning down the house

Friday, May 20, 2011

Hello friends! I know I said I was going to be making myself scarce these next few days but I managed to sneak in some fun. If I had time for that then I surely must have time for a post. Feeling a little bit fragile today possibly due to smoke inhalation or perhaps gluttonous consumption of free beer but most likely a combination of both.

Last night I went to the A.P.C. opening in East London and it was nothing short of wild. We walked up to a mob scene - people were spilling out of the mini-boutique right into the street. There is nothing I love more than a street party especially when the DJs are spinning hits of the 90s and there is complimentary drinky-poo's on hand err.... in hand? hah. It was all well and good until someone decided to set a car on fire around the corner. The party was literally smoked out - the smell of burning rubber is definitely a buzz kill. I took a few shaky photos on Josh's point & shoot (still don't know how to use it properly) but beat a hasty retreat when ashes and water started blowing on me - safety first!

Hi friends, things are going to be a little bleak over here the next couple of days - I'm moving flats! And although I have very few possessions to my name, it is a bit of a haul. I'll leave you with a few snapshots of me goofing off and promise to be back as soon as my new sanctuary is all set up! See you soon.

I swear in the above photo he was looking RIGHT INTO MY SOUL. Dreamy. Real Dreamy.

A couple of weeks ago I was fortunate enough to be turned on to the band Smith Westerns by my friend Mark Pesci, a serious music aficionado from Toronto. Luckily, just in time to catch their show at Cargo in Shoreditch. They are the love child of T Rex and Thin Lizzy - I just CANNOT GET ENOUGH. Not to mention their lead singer, Cullen, is the ultimate babe man. It was a total 'I get excitement at your feet' moment and the amount of photos I took are an indication of my ultimate devotion; I took plenty!

Here is just a taste, I'm sure I almost filled my entire memory card. I did devote some shots to the beginning of the night when Josh and I drank in the local park. Trying to bring some Canadiana to East London, Josh even shot gunned a tall can of Grolsch; brave man! Too bad it wasn't Steam Whistle

Check out their new album Dye It Blonde if you know what's good for you.

Wearing: striped pyjama top - paul smith. skinny belt - club monaco. little boys tux jacket - thrifted. blush shorts - thrifted. black tights - american apparel. shoes - nine west.

Six months into my life as a Londoner and I'm officially bored of just about everything I brought with me. If the last post was any indication of the packed closet I was accustomed to, I am living with a very limited wardrobe. It dawned on me that if I added Jash's close into the mix, I would have twice as many. May I introduce the pilfered clothing club! Yes, I am wearing a pyjama top, but who's judging? It was comfy.

This was our pilgrimage back to Danbury Street in Islington where I lived back in 2009. Memorrieeesss.

My new style inspiration has come courtesy of Poison and other hair metal bands. Seriously, watch the music video - there are so many sweet elements to be lifted from them. Jash is shaking his head. I still stand by my statement.

The title of this post has nothing to do with the actual content, I'm just sitting in the Owl & Pussycat pub on Redchurch Street and it came on. It's a pretty hot jam so I thought I would just go with it.

A while back I was introduced to a pretty cool dude, Eric Newby, who was photographing me for an issue of Parlour. I wrote a little blurb about how to thrift in Edmonton and he took some photos of my closet and myself. (I cannot believe I willingly exposed my unkempt closet to the world....) Anyway, shortly after we had a hang out in Vancouver where we decided to walk around in the sea wall in +30 weather. Needless to say, I got burnt and he took more photos. This was almost three years ago but here there are!

wearing: leggings - american apparel. crocheted sweater - thrifted. grey old man sweater - fred perry (josh's!). black velvet jacket - thrifted. striped socks - present. desert boots - thrifted. sunglasses - raybans.

Thanks for all the wonderful comments on my blog birthday! I was debating whether or not I was even going to bother mentioning it. It is strange to think that this blog was originally started with the intention of keeping my sister up to date on the happenings of my life when I lived in London the first time in 2009. I was in a university exchange program for six months at a time when Skype was not as well known. The content slowly morphed into the personal style domain which is not that surprising as my degree is in Fashion Communications.

Like the grandpa/grandma's we are, Jash and I have been going for evening walks along Regents Canal which turned out to be a pretty decent place to take photos - expect this to happen more frequently!
