wearing: patchwork leather jacket - vintage. silk shirt - vintage. beaded necklace - my dad's from the 60s. braided belt - thrifted. grey tights - hue. jean shorts - thrifted. sunglasses - the row. boots - vintage. tote - rough trade east london.

For our weekly writer's meeting Robin and I met up at the wonderfully delightful Duchess Bake Shop on 124 street. If you have not been, it is time to give in to ultimate pleasure; their quiche is something to write home about. I have yet to sample their macarons but I like to think they must rival the likes of Ladurée. What's your favourite bakery treat?

p.s. this is my attempt at trying to inject some colour in my wardrobe... we'll see how long this lasts.

Back to my old ways of stealing clothes from guys and wearing them for days on end. Contrary to popular belief, I'm quite a lazy dresser at times. Being that it's between winter and summer at this point (we all know my feelings on the Edmonton version of "spring") I'm completely uninspired. It has also recently come to my attention that most articles of clothing I have purchased in the last six months have lacked any colour whatsoever. It's a good indication that it's time to mix it up. There is nothing worse than trying to find one particular item of clothing in a sea of garments that are all the same colour. Perhaps I just need to get organized.

It seems as though more and more exciting things are happening within Edmonton as of late. I'm not sure if it's because I'm beginning to embrace the city more and resent it less or if more locals are becoming increasingly involved in making rad things happen. Case and point last week when artsScene Edmonton put on a wild party entitled Trip The Light at the Breakfast Television studios.

My highlights of the evening were the wonderfully talented boys of Scenic Route to Alaska, the honey-noted brews from Yellowhead Brewery, and the prop filled photobooth. It didn't hurt that other local lovelies were in attendance too: Miss Robin SchroffelSam Moukhaiber, and Miss Caroline Gault to name a few.

Hey dolls, Western Canada Fashion Week has come to a close and I managed to squeeze in photographs of only ONE of my outfits. Oh well. It didn't help that midway through Mother Nature decided to bless us with another round of wet sticky snow. If I were still in England the daffodils and crocuses would be out, the grass would be emerald green and I would be enjoying cocktails in the park! In Edmonton, I say silent prayers daily that the city will sweep the rocks and grit from the gutter so that I may take out my show piece car. Tuff Life.

WCFW A/W 12 Fave Rave's

Monday, April 9, 2012

As it turned out, I was unable to attend every night of Western Canada Fashion Week but from what I was witness to there were some major wins. This post is an amalgamation of my photographs, WCFW official shots, and of course instagram. Here are a few of my fave rave's:

Major witchay 90s vibes with this collection. The first look - a sheer dress with an uneven hem had me swooning hard. Also, I haven't been completely if at all on the peplum bandwagon but this one I could definitely get behind.

The dream of the 90s really was alive on the Absolute Hardwood runway - MaNoKiN had a 90s grunge skater flare with a dash of contemporary Club Monaco; those prints! I loved their use of feathers in subtle details. A few of the looks were slightly questionably put together - especially the last photograph. The grey tights that fell short of the boot really irked me as well as the elasto ruched belt. The outfit would have been way more effective sans the wretched accessories - there is truth to the old adage 'less is more.'

Such a cohesive collection! As many may know I am an advocate of floral print so it comes as no surprise that the patterned pieces caught my eye.

1960s throw back - an endless stream of cute cocktail dresses each more appealing than the last. I began to wonder what season they were showing for? This definitely was not a A/W show and I wish WCFW would make it clear whether they are presenting a season ahead or the one at hand. SO CONFUSING.

I am certain this goes without saying but..... WOW. Murky swamp coloured palate on stunning silhouettes had me in a daze and before I knew it, the show was finished. The idea of carrying the crop top into the fall and winter months is something I will definitely be experimenting with. Music, at least for me, is key and MB picked the perfect tunes, not only were the clothes remarkable she had the crowd in the mood. Gaaaah. If you need the full effect, check out this video by Aaron Pedersen. Also, I think I need to wear ankle boots with EVERYTHING now. Just saying.

And finally:

Massive thanks to the lovely folks at Davines who gifted us bloggers some major hair swag.
