Late late post from a disorganized girl - the winner of the Diana Vreeland: The Has To Travel is the lovely Courtney Erin of Sartorial Sidelines.

In other news, I'm having an existential crisis with my job and life in general. Things might be sparse around here for the foreseeable future but not forever! With that said, my vintage pop up shop that I've been talking about doing since I was still living in England (they certainly know how to do them right over there) is actually taking form. Ladies & Gentleman of the Edmonton area, pen in a wild time for November 10-11th - details to follow shortly.

Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has To Travel

Sunday, October 21, 2012

My excitement knows no bounds whenever a documentary on a fashion icon rolls into town. Having an inquiring mind at an early age, Diana Vreeland was on my radar ever since my infatuation with Studio 54 in elementary school and even more so when I moved onto obsessing over Andy Warhol and The Factory. This was clearly a happening lady with her career at Harper's and Vogue while rubbing shoulders with all my fave raves,  how could I not be intrigued?

Fortunately for me, and for the people of Edmonton, Diana Vreeland: The Eye Hast To Travel will be screening at the Princess Theatre on Whyte Ave beginning October 26th. I'm also happy to announce that a lucky reader will be gifted a double guest pass for the movie valid for any of the showings.

Look! A plane!

wearing: skeleton sweater - the pretty secrets vintage (get it HERE)
skirt - asos
tights - joe fresh
heels - michael kors
purse - betsey johnson

Finally starting to get into the spirit 11 days prior to Halloween. I'll admit I haven't even begun to think of a costume and as the date looms over me it's doubtful any effort will be put forth. Instead I'll sport spooky inspired pieces like this sweater paired with my Betsey Johnson ceramic heart studded handbag, an accessory I hold dear to my heart. It was purchased on my first and only trip to NYC six years ago. Though it is small in size and cute in demeanour, it doubles as a deadly weapon. Weighing in at nearly 2lbs (yes I was curious enough to weigh it) this handbag is the ideal accessory for assault prevention.

a penny for your thoughts

Wednesday, October 17, 2012

wearing: cardigan - vintage aquascutum // t shirt - west 49 // suede skirt - vintage // chain tassel necklace - The Pretty Secrets vintage // leather purse - vintage cole haan // tennis socks - unknown // penny loafers - vintage

After years of searching I found the most perfect pair of penny loafers and coincidentally it's nearly too cold to wear them but better late than never according to the old adage. These are my favourite fall pieces right now, the suede olive a-line skirt seems to go with everything as does the heavy knit navy Aquascutum oversized cardigan. I'm all about versatile items which is sometimes tricky with vintage especially outrageous 60s eye-melter patterns.

Speaking of vintage clothes - I do have an online store but The Pretty Secrets Vintage will be popping up in Edmonton in the near future! Details to follow.

Also, I've been guest blogging at Murale Muse - Canada's answer to Sephora. Check out my first entry on winter skincare here

think pink - giveaway

Monday, October 15, 2012

If you haven't already heard, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and while I'm of the theory that one should be mindful of this all year round, I do enjoy the extra blast of pink for 31 days. The lovely folks at Clearly Contacts are currently raising awareness for the cause by donating a portion of sales to the Rethink Breast Cancer campaign from every pair of pink frames they sell. They have also sent me a pair of frames by Derek Cardigan and one lucky reader can have a pair too!

To enter:

1. You must be a Canadian resident!

2. The following are worth 1 entry each:
- 'Like' Clearly Contacts on Facebook
- Follow Clearly Contacts on Twitter
- Follow The Pretty Secrets on Twitter
- 'Like' The Pretty Secrets on Facebook
- Follow The Pretty Secrets on Google Friend Connect or Bloglovin'

3. Leave a comment below with your email address and which entries you qualify for

The contest will be open till Monday, October 29th

Good luck!

Also.... whenever I think of wearing pink my mind immediately wanders to the scene from Funny Face    in which Maggie Prescott, Editor-in-Chief of Quality magazine, decides that pink is the shade and breaks into song - "red is dead, blue is through, green's obscene, brown's taboo, and there is not the slightest excuse for plum or puce... or chartreuse." Summer's last hurrah. It pains me to look at these photographs knowing that there's frost on the ground; the temperature hovering around zero. Harvey and I had been conspiring this shoot for quite some time and I'm glad we finally got around to it while the weather was affable. The location was an entrance to a parking garage, which made things mildly awkward at points. We had begun the Wayne's World routine of "car!".... "game on" at which point my inner (and outer) goof made a timely appearance.

Downtown Edmonton, while quite modest, is full of strange nooks and crannies. After all these years I am still discovering new things.
