Last month my best friend flew into town from Toronto for a few days which was a real treat. Out of the 365 days of the year, we maybe see each other 10 of them, if we’re lucky. With the limited time we had, it was decided that we would go on a quick road trip to check out a few top shelf spots in Alberta (which included two UNESCO World Heritage Sites NBD – travel scrapbook on the way).
After having attended the most magical wedding at the Last Chance Saloon in June, I knew it was the perfect spot to stay and that Cecily would appreciate its western kitsch as much as I do. We checked into the cowboy themed room at the Rosedeer Hotel, a supposedly haunted old roadhouse inn in Wayne, Alberta. It’s only a short drive from Drumheller through a canyon with a twisting stream through it and 11 magical bridges that cross over the water at various points. It’s the perfect scenery for a Tom Mix cowboy film.

Upon arrival, we made the novice mistake of going on a dusk hike (which is apparently when rattlesnakes are most active) all the way up the hill behind the hotel to ring a bell. The view was incredible, the mosquitoes were relentless, I wouldn’t have changed a thing.
