ARIZONA TRAVEL DIARY

Canada is currently in a polar vortex. My latest fashion icon is the Michelin Man; it’s all about the layers. Since I’ve decided to avoid the reality outside my window, all I can bring myself to share on this space is memories from warmer times. Here’s my Arizona Travel Diary from my trip last winter. Hopefully this will keep us all warm until the weather passes and becomes a bit more humane. I also created a list and video about some of the weird places I love in Arizona. You can check that out here: Weird Arizona – 5 Strange Places to Visit on a Trip to the Arizona Desert.

Full Face of Drugstore Makeup

Full Face of Drugstore Makeup

Full Face of Drugstore Makeup

The lore of good drugstore makeup has been information I have slowly pieced together over the years. I’ve taken product recommendations by word of mouth. My countless attempts at duping higher end items for less over the years. It has been an epic trial and error that comes with many wins but also colossal missteps. Today, I have decided to share one of my testing sessions on new to me drugstore makeup in a beauty tutorial: Full Face of Drugstore Makeup. Join me while I find a few new favourites and duds I wouldn’t bother using again.

THE EYESHADOW

I first decided to create this video when I received the L’Oreal Paradise Enchanted Collection. I was a little bit hesitant. The eyeshadow palette and blushes are all peach scented. Though I’m not completely sold on the smell, I did find the eyeshadow from the Paradise Enchanted palette to be very blendable and easy to work with. The palette is by no means ground breaking, but it definitely has a place amongst the workable everyday nudey browns palettes. I especially liked how it worked with the Lise Watier Metamorphix – one of my favourite products to make any powder eyeshadow into a cream/liquid.

THE LINERS

I was absolutely blown away by the quality of drugstore eyeliners these days. It came as such a surprise to me, I’m embarrassed to say. The Super Slim liquid liner especially has the perfect tip for making a precise cateye. There is even a grip that helps with the application.

Revisiting the some of the brands that I began my makeup journey with has been both parts nostalgic and fun. There are so many more options available than there was when I was a teenager, it is staggering. With such an abundance of choice I can see how going to the drugstore to pick out something as simple as eyeliner could become overwhelming. I’m so grateful for communities on YouTube that have helped make me a more informed consumer as well as entertained me for hours and hoursssss. I Lived in a Haunted House | Fort Edmonton Park’s Firkins House

Halloween is a great time to bring up this little known fact about myself. I lived in a haunted house – The Fort Edmonton Park’s Firkins House to be specific. I loved to periodically pop by and visit it, sometimes I even document it in a style editorial. How did I live in a house that is located in a city park? Well, first of all, my family donated it in 1992 and it was carefully moved from the neighbourhood of Belgravia down to the nearby park.

Just a little baby Sandy watching her house getting plucked up and moved away.

The Stories

Our house has been featured in several publications and tv special. We have yet to be consulted for any of these features so my sister (founder of The Witchery) and I decided to take things into our own hands and tell our stories. First hand. From the people they actually happened to (us). I’ve made a YouTube video chronicling the most interesting tales from the Firkins House while we resided there in the company of a ghostly presence! My mom was so kind enough to surprise drop by that day and give us more details about the house we grew up in.

How I Spent My Summer Vacation

How I Spent My Summer Vacation

How I Spent My Summer Vacation

Oh hey there! Were you wondering How I Spent My Summer Vacation? Look no further than this quick little video of an accurate summation of my summer. There was a healthy dose of cold ramen from Tokiwa, my favourite place to get ramen in Edmonton. In fact, the only place I will ever go for ramen in Edmonton. There was ice cream, canola fields, the farmer’s market, and more! Even an opening of the new Aga Khan pavilion at the Devonian Botanical Gardens. There is no shortage of random outings (I even went to the waste management facility) in this summer highlight reel. I intended this to be a monthly vlog but it turned out that an entire summer fit into one. So there’s that. Anyway, keep scrolling to watch the video. 🙂

And All The Other Things I Did

I suppose it wouldn’t be fair to say this is *all* I did this summer. I also ran a 10K race with Lululemon. I went to the Stampede with GMC Canada, and camped in Kananaskis. I also went to Road Tripping to Gabriola Island where I unplugged for two whole glorious weeks. A vlog from that is yet to come! If you enjoy my videos, be sure to head on over to my YouTube channel to subscribe to be alerted when these videos are hot off the press 🙂 Thanks so much for stopping by.

Urban Decay Naked Cherry Easy Tutorial

Urban Decay Naked Cherry Easy Tutorial

Urban Decay Naked Cherry Easy Tutorial

As soon as the OG Naked 1 was retired up popped Naked Cherry. While I’ve been a long time lover Urban Decay ever since I came across the brand while on my first trip to Europe. I had never been to a Sephora but stumbled upon one in Paris and thought I had found heaven. I bought one purpley blue eyeshadow and have been a fan ever since. History aside, I was stoked when I received this collection in the mail and couldn’t wait to give it a go. The shadows were quite pigmented and blended easily but rather than reading this I implore you to watch the video below to see my Urban Decay Naked Cherry Easy Tutorial in action. 🙂

The Naked Cherry Collection

Like most people who spend a great deal of their waking hours on the internet for their job, I have been absorbing all the opinions about this launch. This seems to be a very polarizing palette. People are either super stoked on the Naked Cherry or they’re not. Some complaints I read was that it was too similar to the Naked Heat palette, or at least in a similar colour family. There was also the complaint that there is not one classic “cherry” colour (ie BRIGHT RED) in the palette. I’d argue that not all cherries are maraschino and that most regular cherries are, in fact, are reminiscent of this palette. Semantics aside, I think this is a very fun palette that I’m happy to have added to my Naked family.

Urban Decay Naked Cherry Easy Tutorial

My overall review is that the shadows are very pigmented and blend lovely. Overall, it’s a lovely palette however, it is not an every day shadow story I will be turning to. With that in mind, I would recommend it if anyone is in the market for a pinky pop of colour as there’s a good mix of mattes and shimmers.
